The library has a spacious, beautiful, quiet reading room for those who wish to read or study.
Also, books and periodicals are lent out to members for home reading.
The reading room of the library, spread over an area of about 7000 sq. ft on the 2nd floor of the library, provides a quiet place for reading and studying. It has seating capacity for around 300 people, and is open 365 days from 7.00 a.m. to 8.30 p.m.
Members requiring special information can consult the reference sources, such as dictionaries and general encyclopedias, as well as specialized glossaries, subject encyclopaedias, directories, atlases, biographical works, etc. These books are only available for in-house use.
All members are allowed to borrow 3 books and 3 periodicals (2 new & 1 old) at a time, for home reading. Books will be issued between 9 a.m. and 6.30 p.m. Monday to Friday and between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturdays. Books are issued for 14 days, current periodicals for 7 days and old periodicals for 14 days. Newspapers, reference collection items and special materials are not issued out. A fine of Re 1 per day is charged for overdue items.
A computerized book catalogue is available, to help members to identify books by authors and subjects.The catalogue of the book collection is maintained using the SLIM Software.
